Adv Motepe SC is a seasoned senior counsel with extensive experience in constitutional and appellate litigation. Selected from over 500 law students nationwide to participate in the prestigious Integrated Bar Project in 1996,. He has previously represented the Competition Commission before the Competition Tribunal as junior counsel against senior counsel. He has appeared in numerous high-profile matters before the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court, often leading teams of junior counsel in complex and precedent-setting cases such as Minister of Transport and others v Tasima and Merafong Municipality v Aglo-Gold Ashanti in the Constitutional Court, which introduced reactive challenges/collateral reviews by state organs. He has represented and given opinion to Eskom in environmental matters involving Kendal and Tutuka Power Stations and also represented Eskom in an environmental matter in the SCA, namely South Durban Community Environmental Alliance v Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment and Others. He has also served as an acting judge, including in high-profile matters.
